It's amazing how one small object (a cowboy hat) can make a huge difference! A few weeks ago, we went with my granny to visit my grandfather at the nursing home. We wanted to see him and wish him a happy ninety-first birthday! After we got out of the car, Aubrey reached behind the seat and grabbed a cowboy hat that they love to play dress up with. (It's old and even has a hole at the top.) She placed it on Daniel's head and once he and Granny started walking through the hallways, it was obvious that we had started a parade. Most of the time, people say hey or glance our way as we walk through the several hallways it takes to get to my papa's room. This day however, everyone stopped and stared and waved. Daniel was tipping his hat to those passing by (without any prompting - totally his idea) and to those just sitting in their rooms. He wasn't saying anything, but the gesture was a plain "howdy" to all near us. I enjoyed seeing smiles on peoples' faces. Daniel and Granny were definitely enjoying it, too!:) Then, on the way out, Daniel waved and said "bye-bye" to everyone. Twas a cute afternoon for sure!
